CASTOR PRODUCTS

Chemically, castor oil is a vegetable oil which shows desirable mechanical and resistance properties at high temperatures. Castor oil is unique among all fats and oil as this is the only oil having a composition of 85% minimum of a hydroxyl, unsaturated C18 fatty acid-ricinoleic acid; a double bond in the 9-10 position and a hydroxyl group on the 12th carbon. This combination of hydroxyl group and unsaturation only occurs in castor oil. It has numerous applications in bio-based polymers, lubricants, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.

Today India dominates the castor oil market with nearly 90% of global supply originating out of the subcontinent. HBI has been an important player in the castor oil market since 1993 and has developed an excellent expertise in this complicated business. 

The Adani-Wilmar Group is a $ 4 billion commodity trading and manufacturing conglomerate and is the world’s largest crusher and exporter of all grades of castor oil (first special / technical grade, pale pressed, cold pressed/ pharmaceutical grade, low moisture and low FFA …) and castor derivatives (HCO, 12HSA, ricinoleic acid, sebacic acid …). As the agents of the Adani-Wilmar Group, HBI sells around 25% of the castor oil and derivatives consumed in Europe.

HBI operates bulk storage facilities for castor oil out of Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and Marseille (France) and stocks Adani’s castor oil derivatives (hydrogenated castor oil, 12-hydroxy stearic acid, ricinoleic acid and sebacic acid) in Meer (Belgium) for rapid supply into the market. In a market which is not always associated with the rigour demanded by European buyers, HBI and Adani guarantee the ongoing excellent reputation for quality, reliability and service which we have achieved over more than two decades.
